Federal Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain Launched Pakistan’s First Animal Rights Curriculum

Federal Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain launched Animal Rights project under the initiative of the Prime Minister Strategic Reforms Unit of Federal Education and Professional Training. 

 

The Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan took notice of how the lack of awareness about animal rights was adversely affecting the country’s many and varied ecosystems. For this purpose a project on Animal Rights has been initiated in the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Islamabad.  

 

As a first step, National Curriculum Council (NCC) Secretariat was tasked to develop the Supplementary Reading Material (SRM) to raise awareness among the children initially from the schools located in Islamabad Capital Territory.

 

While speaking on the occasion, Head of Prime Ministers’ Strategic Reforms Unit (PMSRIU), Mr. Salman Sufi appreciated National Curriculum Council (NCC) for developing the material in consultation with different organizations working on Animal Rights. He congratulated the Federal Minister for his commitment to raise this important issue through education.   

 

Director NCC, Dr. Mariam Chughtai interviewed some students on their behavior with animals. She informed the audience about the future plans to take this initiative on higher level. 

 

Provincial education secretaries appreciated this important step and assured of their commitment to launch the initiative in their provinces.

In his address, the Federal Minister lauded the efforts of Director NCC Dr. Mariam Chughtai, and the author of the material Mr. Suhail Bin Aziz. He called this initiative need of the hour and expressed his hope that the curriculum will be implemented with the same passion.  

The event was attended by provincial education secretaries, DG Federal Directorate of Education, MD National Book Foundation, representatives of different animal rights organizations, teachers and students
